Cambridge community radio station to close this month

by cmumusicnews 17. February 2010 12:18

Cambridge-based community radio station 209radio has confirmed it will shut down at the end of the month. The future of the station was called into question last Autumn, but a sizable donation at the time helped it stay in business. But with said donation presumably spent and no new sources of income secured, the company will now shut up shop in two weeks.

A short statement for the people behind the community service reads: "The time just isn't right for sustainable community radio in Cambridge. We've had nearly seven years of learning, music, laughter and tears, broadcasting on the web, from venues and on your FM dial. With what resources we've been able to use in an increasingly tough environment, we're confident that we've enriched the Cambridge airwaves with new programming and touched the lives of many with that content. On the shop floor, we have helped individuals and groups grow and achieve great things".
